Artists, Activists & Collaborators

RuckusRoots believes in the power of the creative process to affect positive change in the world. We're working with groundbreaking artists to give young people across the country a chance to express themselves creatively, sustainably and consciously. We are proud to be working with the following artists and organizations:

Paso Pacífico's mission is to restore and conserve the natural ecosystems of Central America’s Pacific slope by collaborating with landowners, local communities and involved organizations to promote ecosystem conservation. Paso Pacifico and RuckusRoots teamed up to present Trap Attack, a fundraiser and art party benefiting jaguar conservation efforts in Nicaragua.

The now-famous Scraper Bike Movement, based in Oakland, CA and featured on NPR, helps underprivileged youth find creativity and community through biking and art. Scraper Bike founder Baybe Champ joined RuckusRoots at Bike Bash 2011.

Ethical Expeditions is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to conserving our natural world through education and community empowerment. RuckusRoots and Ethical Expeditions have collaborated to raise money to stop deforestation in Boreno's Wehea forest.

Ryan Nelli provides live music and audio/visual production at RuckusRoots events. Ryan is a Los Angeles, CA-based sound designer, recording engineer, DJ and club promoter with over 10 years of professional sound experience.

Ant Farm/Art Customs is an LA-based collective creative thinkers that turns large-scale artistic dreams into reality. They are builders and painters, designers and engineers, working with materials ranging from water and wood to metal and found objects. Ant Farm is now collaborating with RuckusRoots on current projects (including TRASHformation and Bike Bash).

David Wescott is an LA-based artist specializing in pastel and watercolor paintings. He completed a live drawing of an orangutan using only recycled lipstick and cosmetics at a RuckusRoots fundraising event in December 2010. Palm oil plantations are one of the main reasons for deforestation in Southeast Asia, and palm oil is found in many types of lipstick.

RAN logo Rainforest Action Network campaigns for the forests, their inhabitants and the natural systems that sustain life by transforming the global marketplace through education, grassroots organizing, and non-violent direct action. RuckusRoots promotes RAN's agribusiness campaign through petition that call for large corporations to stop using unsustainably harvested palm oil in their products.
Matt Moldover is a San Francisco-based electronic musician and artist, and creator of the Octamasher. The Octamasher is an interactive music installation that connects eight unique instruments to one computer brain and allows virtually anyone to jump right in, play samples, tweak loops, interact with other people, and have fun! The Energy Action Coalition united a diversity of organizations in an alliance that supports and strengthens the youth climate and energy movement. RuckusRoots signed up hundrends on the EAC's Power Vote Pledge prior to the 2008 elections, through which participants pledged to vote for pro-clean-energy leaders.
