RuckusRoots’ events and fundraisers blend art and activism to create inspiring, interactive experiences for all who attend. Here are a few of our favorites.
TRASHion Show, held at Wild Honey Studios in downtown Los Angeles, was a fashion show and fundraiser for RuckusRoots’ award-winning program, TRASHformation. The fashion show featured clothing made entirely from recycled items–the runway saw over 50 looks from eight amazing LA designers. Music was provided by Erinn Bone, Ryan Nelli and Michal Menert of Pretty Lights Music. TRASHion Show was sponsored by Elemental LED, Flying Dog Brewery, Mr. V’s Cheesesteak Truck and Kork Kitchen LA.

In November of 2011, Paso Pacifico and RuckusRoots teamed up to present Trap Attack, a fundraiser and art party benefiting jaguar conservation efforts in Nicaragua that raised nearly $4500! Participants discovered how scientists use motion and heat-sensitive camera traps to track, study and protect hard-to-see wildlife, like jaguars. Interactive art, live music, a silent auction and a visit from Central American scientists and spider monkeys rounded out the night.
In December of 2010, RuckusRoots answered this important question for fundraiser participants! We collaborated with Ethical Expeditions to raise almost $5K to protect the rainforest in Borneo and created an atendee-inspired art piece out of /recycled lipstick (thanks to artist Dave Wescott). Most cosmetics contain palm oil, a major contributor to deforestation in Southeast Asia. Find out more and view pictures of Dave’s painting on the RuckusRoots Facebook page.
